No Farmers Market this Saturday 17th September

Sorry all,

Unable to make the Farmers Market at Port Fairy on Saturday.  Too many other committments.  Will be there next week for the craft market.  If you are after Macarons, Brownies or Melting Moments Pronto have just had a delivery this morning or you could sit down and have a cuppa and a Macaron at Brightbird Espresso.

Have a lovely weekend,
Bridie

West Kids Birthday Festival & Great Cake Recipe

Over the next couple of weeks it is the West Kids Birthday Festival.  Jonty, Eamon and Greta's Birthdays are within 5 days of each other.  So September is a busy month at our house, not to mention it was Hugh & Zac, our twin nephew's birthdays a few days ago.

So obviously I have birthday cakes on my mind.  I always use a fantastic butter cake recipe from the Australian Womens Weekly which is really yum.  The recipe is below and in the recipe section so I recommend you give it a go and am sure it will become one of your staples as well.

Jonty wants something to do with dinosaurs and would like a carrot cake (he is not into sweet things).  Eamon is obsessed with wiggles and Greta loves any type of cake so long as it is sweet with lots of icing.  So the plan in my head is...

Fathers Day, Gisborne & Port Fairy Markets

This sunday will be my first time at the Gisborne Market.  It is a huge market in the centre of beautiful Gisborne with over 200 stalls.  So if you live in the region why not take a drive on Sunday and come on down 9am - 2pm.  We will be at the Gisborne market the first sunday of every month from now on. http://www.gisborneoldetimemarket.org.au/

Gisborne? you say.  Michael's brother and his wife have just built a beautiful house in Gisborne.  We thought it was the perfect opportunity to spend more time with them and our new nephew, Patrick, so Gisborne it is.

The next Port Fairy Market will be Saturday week 10th September 9am-1pm which is also the festival of words winter weekend.

September is a Birthday Festival in the West and Allen household  with Shane & Gaz's twins Hugh and Zac, Jonty and Eamon & Greta all having their birthdays as well as some in laws.  So we will be at market but may need to leave early on some days so get in before 12 for your Macarons.

Yesterday I delivered Macaron and Melting Moment packs to Pronto.  The macaron boxes have been packaged in a more blokey design for the weekend and the moments are in little boxes.  So get in today or tomorrow if you wnat them for Father's day.  If you live in Queenscliff McKenzie Ebbels will have their Macaron gift boxes on Saturday Morning.

I hope all dad's have a great day on sunday!

Enjoy!

Wedding Pic

Mid July I did some Macarons for Nicola and James' Wedding.  A lovely couple from Geelong who were married in the picture perfect town of Sorrento.  Time was spent picking colours and flavours and the final product was:

Pistachio & Orange Blossom
Mandarin
Raspberry
Salted Caramel
Honey & Coconut
Cassis (Blackcurrant)

According to Nicola the guests loved the Macarons but unfortunately they went so quickly that James and Nicola did not even get one themselves.  They are overseas for six months now but I will make sure that they get a couple when they get back.

Very kindly Nicola sent me a picture of the Macarons on the day.

I wish them all the best for their travels and their new life together.

Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio - a visit to cake heaven!

During our recent stay at the RCH, we had some time to kill, actually a whole day of waiting to find out how Greta was going and we couldn't stay with her.  Anxious, Nervous, Grumpy, thinking too much - what to do - in true Quinn girl tradition lets eat cake!  So my sister and I took a drive to Chapel St and bought up big at Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio.

Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio sells amazing cakes, desserts, chocolates and sweet treats.  Darren Purchese is the patisserie brain behind the shop, he is a world acclaimed pastry chef and for good reason.  Kate, the masterchef, went up against him in an immunity challenge on masterchef this year.  She did a pretty good job but couldn't quite pull off his amazing carmelised white chocolate mousse with banana, vanilla and passionfruit.

The shop is beautiful, it is just pretty as a picture and then the sweets - oh my god!!  We were in heaven!  See the pictures below.  If you are in the area it is well worth a visit.  Just a note though it is takeaway only, no sit down or coffee so be prepared, take your goodies home, get a great coffee on the way and then enjoy!  Also it is not cheap, but the ingredients are second to none and the time taken to make the creations is phenomenal so well worth the price.  Oh we also purchased jars of salted caramel, raspberry & Choc Hazelnut Spread.  Caramelised Cocoa Nibs and Blocks of Chocolate (all as gifts of course!)  There is an open kitchen in the shop so you can watch the pastry chefs work their magic.  The kitchen is whiz bang - I want one!!
